Thanks, Giving and Receiving
As we move from Thanks and Giving into the hustle and bustle of the holiday season, it can be easy to get caught up in moving fast and “things”. Buying for others, having others give us gifts. This is a time that challenges us, challenges our thoughts and our actions. A time that grows our hearts and reminds us what is truly important in life.
A few days ago my gratitude journal’s prompt challenged me to donate X dollars to a random charity. I chose to double it and had so much fun surfing through donation causes. It instantly reminded me how blessed I genuinely am…most importantly with excellent health and well-being.
As I went through the day noticing the emails and commercials moving us into the holiday season, I reflected on what I want this holiday season to be about for me.
To me this time is really about being more authentic to myself, sharing my abundance and being in gratitude for all I have rather than lack for what I feel is missing. I’m not just speaking of financial abundance, but the relationships I have in my life, the impact I want to have on the world, the people I interact with the dreams and goals that move my life forward.
The other day I found myself again purchasing and donating some baby items to a beautiful little family in need. It had me thinking that for someone to give, someone has to be open to receiving. For me to find happiness in helping someone else, that person has to allow me to help them; they have to be open and willing to receiving energy and support from others- even a stranger. This doesn’t always come easily to many of us.
As I reflected, even further, it had me thinking that rather than prioritizing giving (which comes fairly naturally to me) it would be better to challenge myself to receive- that’s where my personal growth will take place. This doesn’t mean I stop giving, but I am challenging myself each day to be open to receiving. To be in full flow of the energy of giving and receiving.
Many of us are natural givers in life, especially to those we love and see in need; But often those of us who give easily can struggle with receiving. At some point in our lives we decided, it was better to give than receive, that we could do it ourself, that we were independent, that it might make us weak to lean on others, to focus on being kind and giving… that receiving would make us weak, needy, (insert your own limiting belief).
When we do this, we are disconnecting ourselves from the energy flow of manifestation, from connecting with others, from being part of something greater than ourselves. We must be willing to receive the giving of others to allow the natural flow in the universe. Receiving energy from others is far greater than receiving a gift, it’s the little things in life that show connection, caring, and love for others. Allowing others to compliment us and really breathe and take in those kind words. It’s allowing another to open a door and genuinely thank them. It’s calling a friend for support or help when you need it and letting them be your rock. It’s allowing someone to carry something for you. It’s about letting others to carry you in life- not in a needy way, but in the way of allowing caring and love in from family, friends, and strangers. When we allow ourselves to receive in the kindness and care of others, we allow ourselves to open up to receiving great abundance and love from the universe.
As the holiday season is upon us, it’s a great time to reflect if you are open the entire energy flow that comes with thanks, giving and receiving?
